Joneck’s is proud to present our first blending of poetry and wine sipping on Friday, Sept. 13. 

Join us as we pull the cork on a series of Featured Readings by local poets and writers + an additional experience of blending community with an Open Mic following the Featured Readings.

MCed by local writer/editor Janna Marlies Maron, come enjoy some of Sacramento’s creative voices, and, of course a glass or two from our own creative wine selections and see how much fun it is to pair the arts of poetry and wine.

COST:  No Entry Fee, but 2 Drink Minimum Purchase is Required (Must be 21 years or older)

EXPERIENCE:  Friendly, Safe Space, Variety of Poetry Genres Welcome 

SEATING: RSVP required to reserve a seat.  Seats will be held until 7:30pm. 

TIMING:

6:30 OPEN MIC SIGN-UPS

- After the featured readings, we will open the floor to creatives to share their voices and stories.  Poets will be called on a first-signup basis.

Deborah Meltvedt

(she/her) is a public health educator and writer in Sacramento, California. She has been published in various literary anthologies including Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine, the Creative Non-Fiction Anthology What I Didn’t Know: True Stories of Becoming a Teacher. Her first book of poetry Becoming a Woman was published in 2022. Deborah is also trained in the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) creative writing method to lead writing groups in safe and encouraging spaces. She lives in East Sacramento with her husband Rick and their cat, Anchovy Jack.

Jessica Lynn Dailey-Keithline

Is a lover of words, mother to two fierce little dragons and the wife to the kindest man she’s ever known. Born, bred and educated in California, she is a Sacramento native and aspiring world traveler. She was inspired to write at a young age when she found her mother's journals and letters and listened to her father's stories. Jessica believes in the power of using one’s voice to dispel ignorance and fight for freedom and liberation for all people. It is her intention to leave the spaces she touches in the world better than when she found them.

Lawrence Dinkins, Jr.

was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1975, and moved to California in the 1990’s. After coming to Sacramento, he studied writing at Sacramento City College, and he has been writing poetry for nearly twenty years. Lawrence has served on the board of the Sacramento Poetry Center, and he has hosted monthly poetry events at both Mahogany Urban Poetry and Luna’s Café. Lawrence has published three collections with little m press, and his new and selected poems, Warrior Poet, was published by Random Lane Press.

Emcee Host: Janna Marlies Maron

Janna Marlies Maron (she/her) is a professional editor with nearly 20 years of experience helping writers to complete their projects and produce the best work possible. Her experience includes time as a magazine editor, college professor, agency editorial director, and content director for a popular internet brand. Her life’s work began when she was a kid writing in a spiral bound notebook, and she has since turned an MA in creative writing into a successful career as an editor, publisher, and director of her own business supporting women authors writing nonfiction. She is the founding editor and publisher of Under the Gum Tree; she hosts a podcast all about creative nonfiction and a private online community, both called More to the Story.
